About Me

Kyra WaltersHi. My name is Kyra, and I am the creator of this website. I am very glad that you have come here to learn about volunteering. It is a wonderful thing to do.

I got my start doing volunteer projects that were simple, like litter patrols at lakes and streams, since I was in Kindergarten. But, when I was 13, the Tōhoku Tsunami hit Japan and I have a friend who lives in the Sendai region. I worried about her, her family and friends and wanted to find a way to help even more. I did a penny drive and was able to raise over $200 for the Red Cross to help their rescue efforts in Japan. I really enjoyed the feeling it gave me to know that I could make a difference and I decided I wanted to do more.

That's when I realized how hard it is for kids to find places to volunteer. Most organizations require you to be an adult or at least 16 years old and I was very frustrated. I had a lot of energy and really wanted to help, but they wouldn't let me. I finally found several places that DO appreciate younger volunteers and so I was inspired to create CaringKid.com and list those places and share my experiences with you. Hopefully, you will be inspired you to do these fun, helpful activities that can honestly change someone's life. They have changed mine!

Please check out the Volunteer Opportunities listed on my site by category, or you can search for something specific on my Search page.

Many of the links on my site are for Oregon, but I have tried to give you tips on how to find the same kinds of opportunities in your own state whenever I can.

If you would like to suggest a new link, please visit my Add A New Site page. Or if you notice a link on my site that isn't working, please visit my Contact page and send me a message.

Good luck and have fun!
